Review by Mixmaster Linc
The Omaha native moved to Kansas City in 2016, and joined the Nick Schnebelen Band, playing bass and sharing lead vocals. She can be heard on the band’s album Live at Knuckleheads Vol 1. In 2017, she released her solo debut album, Burn Me Alive. The album features Heather’s Kansas City band at the time – Keith Ladd on guitar, Ryan Flemmer on keys, and Cole Dillingham on drums – plus guest appearances by Nick Schnebelen and Michael Lefever. The 51 minute album contains 12 cuts of all original compositions. The vibe is pretty consistently in the blues/rock vein, except for a few slow burners, including “I Don’t Know Why”, “How Many Times”, the title track, and “Dirty Blues” (which features a beautiful Michael Lefever saxophone solo). The other song that breaks from the pack, is “Bring the Swing”, which has a definite “Willie and the Hand Jive” feel.
All things considered, I enjoyed every song on the album, and would give it “two thumbs up” (which let’s you know that I didn’t lose any thumbs in industrial accidents during my career).
