Coyote Bill w Brooks Clayton Haley at Hideout

Promising Young Blues Musicians

On May 31, the KCBS and Coyote Bill held another Youth Jam at The Hideout Bar & Grill in Gladstone. There was a decent crowd of about thirty appreciative patrons, and some new jammers were in attendance: Jack on guitar, Brooks on guitar, and Clayton on drums. Jack presented some old-time blues with covers of Robert Johnson, Elmore James, and R.L. Burnside. Brooks and Clayton covered a modern rock song, Coyote Bill led them through a 12-bar blues, and Clayton played a drum solo. Jammers had the chance to perform twice.

The Kansas City Blues Society presents a new opportunity for young musicians to showcase their talent in Blues music. We are offering them the chance to perform live alongside seasoned blues artists. We believe it is critical that we support and promote our future generation of blues musicians.

The first twenty-five minutes of each Kansas City Blues Society Monthly Jam will be dedicated to showcasing your talent and skills. The KCBS is working with Bill Bartelt (Coyote Bill) on this effort.

This initiative provides an excellent platform for networking with fellow artists. If you are interested in participating, please contact Dennis Nelson, KCBS Jams Coordinator, at (913) 233-6969 or Bill Bartelt. This Wednesday, June 11, our meeting and jam session is at Hurricane Allie’s Bar & Grill, featuring the Nic Olas Band. Can’t make it? Plan on August 13, at the Lotawana Brewing Company.
