Review by Craig Whittington
Rich Chorné probably isn’t a known name, but he has had a long musical career. He grew up in El Paso and left after graduating from UTEP. He was a touring musician and technician. He worked for Sony music many years and has semi-retired to the hills around his hometown. He met Rich Cagle who lives in the area and owns Montrose Studio. They decided to record together and brought in musicians for a full band. They released “Mas” last year and Bringin’ In The Blues in 2022. Mr. Chorné (pronounced Shor-nay) wrote the songs and plays the guitar and sings. Mr. Cagle plays the B3. Kathy Lyon is the featured vocalist on several numbas. Everything sounds good and solid to me. A little Tex-Mex slips in occasionally, but you have to pay attention or you’ll miss it. Eight of the twelve songs are up-tempo rockers, two are mid-tempo, one is gospel and one is a slow blues waltz. Now don’t take off your shoes, it all adds up, I’m telling you. After several listens, I can’t find anything wrong with this stuff. The bass player is all over some double time walking that feels good. Being obscure is a check in the pro column as far as I’m concerned. Tasteful electric guitar and organ, changing vocalists and upbeat.
