Review by Charles "Dutch" Metzker and Tom "Trashmouth" Baker

Dutch and Tom “Trashmouth” Baker have listened to Jonny Green’s High On The Blues album. Jonny is a singer, guitarist, and songwriter on this six-song issue that appears to be self-produced and self-released. There are no liner notes. It sounds semi “hot” throughout because the intensity of the recordings are saturated. He appears to be performing solo and his acoustic guitar comes across better than his slide work but all songs are a cut above average. You might recognize Jonny Green from his participation in several recent Road to Memphis (local IBC) events in Kansas City.

Track 1. 2:15. Title song is High on the Blues and has nice harmonica and guitar work that respects blues roots.
Track 2. 3:17. Highway 666: This has better guitar than harmonica but both are certainly adequate.
Track 3. 3:58. West Texas Woman: Slow guitar tune that may be similar to Steve “Lightning Boy” Malcom.
Track 4. 3:02. Jonny Cockeroo: A word play on John the Conqueror, this begins with instrumental guitar and proceeds with good vocals plus a mild jazz influence.
Track 5. 5:27. The Blues Set Me Free: Good rhythm acoustic and slide guitar and is Dutch’s best pick.
Track 6. 2:14. Refuge: Adequate work reminiscent of Son House vocals.

On a scale of 1 to 5, Trashmouth grades it 3 out of 5 and Dutch grades it 3.5 out of 5.
