Review by Charles "Dutch" Metzker

Released in 1970 by Warner Brothers/Reprise, this album has 16 1/2 minutes of 10 really great songs starting with This is the Rock by J. Spencer with a Buddy Holly vibe. Next is Station Man by D. Kirwan J.Spencer and J.McVie lamenting leaving a situation/relationship. Blood on the Floor by J. Spencer: a relationship gone as wrong as wrong can be with the inevitable consequences.

Hi Ho Silver: Thomas Fats Waller and Ed Kirkeby – definitely not derived from the Lone Ranger show and this one adds some extra rock on top of a blues base.

Jewel Eyed Judy: D. Kirwan M. Fleetwood and J. McVie. Ever have a relationship with a lady that really tears you up when it’s over? This one is definitely bringing that home. Buddy’s Song by Ella Holley – sorry we lost him so early but his mother sure put a fine tune together as a tribute to her son. Earl Gray: another D. Kirwan composition not the tea (ha ha) but still a soothing listen in the middle of side 2.

One Together by J. Spencer puts some great guitar work bringing in another relationship tune that’s really easy to listen to. Tell Me All the Things You Do: D.Kirwan again with rock frosting on a blues cake with great guitar licks and oh my gosh the riffs are amazing. Finally is Mission Bell by William Michael and Jesse Hodges brings this album to a close. First released by Donnie Brooks in 1960 and covered by Jimmy Veltet! and Gene Pitney among others is a very touching song that shows the power love can bring to a relationship.

10/10 one of my favorite albums ever. Enjoy!
