Review by Craig Whittington
Charlie Musselwhite was born in Mississippi in 1944 and has recently returned. He recorded this album in Clarksdale with a drummer and a real bass player (stand up) and that’s it. He handles the vocals, harmonica and guitar. He wrote 8 of the 14 tracks. This is an album of traditional blues that is well and sparsely played. No, not parsley, sparsely. On Remembering Big Joe, he plays on one of Mr. Williams guitars. They were roommates for a while in Chicago. You already know about Charlie, probably have seen and heard him play, know that he is an award winning musician. You may not have heard his guitar playing or known that he could. He has his own approach to vocals and that is no different on this new release. This is a great blues record in the tradition of the Delta.
