KNUCKLEHEADS SALOON
We are super excited to bring back Blues in the Bottoms 2 in partnership with Knuckleheads Saloon. We have an awesome lineup this year with a variety of artists bringing their unique blues music sounds.
Mississippi Heat
We have Mississippi Heat with Inetta Visor on vocals. Their music style is described as having roots in the golden era of Chicago blues in the 1950s; think Muddy Waters, Jimmy Rogers, Howlin’ Wolf, Jimmy Reed, Big Walter Horton, Little Walter, Sonny Boy Williamson, and Junior Wells. The band has also been influenced by harmonica players such as Paul Butterfield and Charlie Musselwhite, but believes it is the musical history and heritage of African Americans that have had the most impact on their music. The band is drawn to new ideas in music, though attracted to the traditional Chicago blues sound, they also bring something fresh and exciting to the culture as well. Their bandleader and harmonica player, Pierre Lacocque, has a Ph.D. from Northwestern University and has spent time working as a psychologist.
The Nick Schnebelen Band, featuring Carly Harvey
Who doesn’t love the Nick Schnebelen Band?? They are our Kansas City hometown heroes who work extra hard at bringing us great blues music time after time. Their music is a mix of blues rock, traditional blues music, and American roots blues music. This has been a very good year for Nick Schnebelen. He was nominated for a Blues Music Award for “Best Blues Rock Album” and has had a great year performing all over both nationally and internationally. He and his band have toured as the opening act for George Thorogood and the Destroyers. Nick is a fixture at the Big Blues Bender Blues festival in Las Vegas as a part of the Bender Brass Band. He is backed by band members who match his exceptional talent and drive.
At last year’s Big Blues Bender, Nick as part of the Bender Brass band, provided backup for a powerful singer out of Washington, D.C., Carly Harvey. Miss Harvey is billed as D.C.’s Queen of the Blues and combines blues, jazz, soul, and indigenous American styles to produce a unique music style. Miss Harvey has twice represented the Washington D.C. Blues Society at the International Blues Challenge. In addition to performing as a solo act, Miss Harvey is also an entertaining and dynamic band leader. She will be the featured performer with the Nick Schnebelen band.
Funky Butt Brass Band
The Funky Butt Brass band out of St. Louis, MO, is a group of talented musicians who respect and revere the New Orleans brass band tradition. The FBBB takes classic New Orleans brass tunes and gives them a twist in the style of Chicago blues, Minneapolis funk, southern rock, St. Louis R&B, and Memphis soul. Many of the band members record and perform with a variety of other musicians and are accomplished on several different instruments and styles of music.
We are looking forward to an evening of great blues music and superb entertainment. We invite you to join us. Click here for the Knuckleheads’ event page. The “Early Bird” price is $25; prices will increase later.
