- Attend shows – local, regional, out-of-state, out-of-country, and blues music festivals, etc. There are always live performances, jams, and festivals happening within driving distance of Kansas City. Festivals are one of the best ways to see new and emerging artists and rediscover old favorites. The Blues Festival Guide is a great resource for finding festivals and other events to attend.
- Support and encourage musicians by attending their shows and buying merchandise directly from them. Yes, life is busy, but start small and plan to attend at least one show per month, then add one every 2 weeks, then move on to 1 per week. Our musicians work hard to bring us enjoyment; let’s reward them with our presence and support. Follow and like them on social media forms. It’s always good to make personal connections with musicians.
- Support venues that present Blues music. The KCBS website (blueskc.org) has a comprehensive list of venues across the region that support live Blues music. Attend a show, buy a meal, buy a drink, and thank the owner/operator for hosting live music.
- Serve as an ambassador for Blues music. Spread the word about its rich history and variety of genres. Bring a friend, family member, or co-worker to a blues event and share your passion for music with them. Volunteer to help out at live music events.
- Refresh your Blues knowledge by watching movies, listening to podcasts, reading books, and watching documentaries that provide a sense of the cultural impact Blues music has had on music in the world.
Let’s all do our part to keep this wonderful music genre and its history alive for generations to come!
