We commend and support the KC Monarchs for bringing back the KC Blues & Jazz Festival. Friday night, October 3, was blues music night with Shemekia Copeland, Roosevelt Collier, Young Rell Davenport, other area bands, local musicians Brody Buster, Nick Schnebelen, Hudspeth & Taylor; and additional local musicians Adam Hagerman, Jacque Garoutte, and Sean McDonnell who provided backup to some of the national bands. It was good to see local musicians be a part of it all.
The Kansas City Blues Society set up a table with blues memorabilia, which was staffed by Jason Vivone and Betty Berry on Friday night. We met lots of people and shared information on KCBS activities. Thanks to Wayne Robinson, John “Junebug” Stuerke, and Larry Thrasher for lending some of their blues’ memorabilia to showcase. The old Kansas City Blues & Jazz festival posters elicited lots of nostalgic feelings from many of the people who stopped by. We made some new friends, got to spread the word about KCBS activities, and really enjoyed ourselves.
We hope this event becomes an annual occurrence and we will continue to support it in all things involving blues music.
