The Michael Shannon Musicians Fund was was created to support blues musicians in the Kansas City metropolitan area. The Fund assists musicians who experience economic hardships due to medical issues or catastrophic life events. Consideration for others involved in the music industry will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Support will be provided to blues musicians living in these Kansas City metropolitan counties:
Missouri: Jackson, Clay, and Platte
Kansas: Wyandotte and Johnson
- This fund is specifically designed to help pay living expenses such as rent, utilities, and medical bills as deemed appropriate by the Kansas City Blues Society Board of Directors.
- No funds will be paid directly to the applicant.
- Only one (1) application can be submitted per calendar year.
- All applications will be kept confidential.
- The amount approved cannot exceed 10 percent (10%) of the total available funds per application or $1,000, whichever is greater.
- The application can be found at blueskc.org and is submitted to the KCBS Board of Directors at blueskc.org@gmail.com. The Board of Directors may request additional information as needed to decide on the request.
The Michael Shannon Musician’s Fund is administered by the Kansas City Blues Society, a 501(c)(3) corporation. All donations are tax deductible. A separate proprietary bank account has been established specifically for this fund.
